1870s set of 2 rare antique editions:
The Swiss Family Robinson, by John Lovell, translated and edited from Stahl’s “Nouveau Robinson Suisse”, with numerous illustrations, published by Cassell, Petter, and Galpin, New York, c.1870. 358 pages.
The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, of York, Mariner, as related by himself, by Daniel Defoe, with upward of one hundred illustrations, published by Cassell, Petter, and Galpin, New York, c. 1870. 394 pages.
Hardcover volumes, bound in blue bubble-grain cloth, with leather spine and corners, and gilt ornamentation and lettering on covers and spine. Some wear to cover and spine. Marbled fore-edges.
Robinson Crusoe volume has small portion of front cover cloth missing and a rip on spine, as well as a rip on back free end paper. Please see photos to confirm condition.
Both books are well bound, and clean with no markings aside from a signature on front inner cover, “R.J. Foskett 1873”. Some minor foxing on titular pages, and minor fading throughout.
The books are in a good condition for their age. Would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
